i am middle of doing bits and bots these days.
Hang on few christmas deadlines which make me keep it go, do my stuff as possible as i can.
Just got the parcel from Korea which i designed here and printed there.

문제는 2013 1월 7일 밀린 마감과 밀린 잉여짓을 캣치업 하고 나서야 문득 알게 되었다.
영국에서 마감 짬짬이 재미나게 디자인, 한국에서 프린트 해 무려 비행배송,
그리고 보내는 데만도 한 카드당 최소 2파운드 가량 씩 들고.
연말 며칠을  마음을 고르고 글을 골라 담은 내 마음들. 글씨는 안이쁘지만.... 
16개의 크리스마스카드 30여 파운드의 돈과 시간과 모든 정성이
단 한 건도 누구에게도 전해지지 못했다는....

11월에 보내야 12월에 도착한다는 뉴스를 접하고 아직은 희망을 버리지 않고 있어요

Really cool brief with lots of freedom.
i have had an idea which was to experiment with simple white cut out shapes
on colourful background.A really joyful piece to work on my brand new colour palette. 
Looking back, i must subconsciously have inspired by fine artist Paul Klee
 as i was doing some depth of research on his works these days.
i must do similar piece soon to make it polish!

유년기에 만화월간지가 아닌 인문잡지를 공급한다는데 '깨어 있구나' 했는데
역시나 받아본 중 제일 쿨한 브리프였다 한마디로 작가님 맘대로 하세요.
한동안 계속 메모해두고 한번 해봐야지 했던 ,
색을 볼드하게 쓰고 컷아웃을 리버스해서 놀고 싶다는 퍼즐이 풀리고는
그야말로 하루 동안  끼니도 잊고 쏜쌀같이 진행된 작업. 
수평적인 갑을 관계와  놀이와 실험, 빠른 진행, 이런게 좋다

I pitched  with this test piece and they seems very interested in.
Finger cross but try not to be excited too much.
as it is not first time.....when if felt  it is nearly there.
and the progress can be incredibly slow as it is not an editorial.

한글로 흉 좀 볼께요.  이뢴 영국아,  여긴  정말 느려도 너무 느려....
아이고 그렇게 ~간 보시고 회의 끝나시기 전에 제 비자 끈나겠세요....

Magazine Cover test 01

Unpublished trial for a Gourmet Magazine Cover 
I suggested this for one of gourmet magazines which i really want do monthly cover.
( i am not sure in those case whether it is legally fine to mention about client?!!) 

There were more test shots (even 3 more) and they prefer the most experimental one!!!
How cool ~! I had to fly back to UK . i had less base to try those big project as it is 3D base yet.
 I hope i could try that very soon though.

A book cover for "The second child".

This is a book cover illustration titled "The second child".

Earlier this year i worked on this project and I’ve waited to be published for ages.

A story is about mysterious rumour among those girl's who want to 'BE QEEN' in high school. 

i decided to use chess metaphors to illustrated girls hierarchy.  

i just heard the colour has been changed a lot when it printed.

i am a little bit scared to check it.

but the above shot is what i sent to my sincere client editor WON, designer LEE! 

thanks for choose my quirky,bold style for the especially teen's novel which can be risky!

but i pretty much satisfied what it ended up finally!

여름을 겨냥한 청소년 문학서 "괴담- 두번째아이"가 7월 중반 출간됩니다.

여고생들의 최고가 되기 위한 교묘한 고도의 심리전을 

학교를 배경으로한  체스게임으로 상징화. 

쎄게 갔다 유하게 왔다 다시 쎄게  세번의 시안을 거쳐 결정된 표지로

진정 어이쿠~하게 유난히 길게 끈 프로젝트지만 만족 합니다. 

문학동네의 원 편집자님 국내에 없는데도 온라인으로 프로젝트 진행 해주신 점, 

위험수를 가진 쎈 그림과 고집쟁이 작가를  끝까지 믿어주셔서 감사.

감리과정에서 색이 많이 변했다는데.... 덜덜덜.

SCREEN PRINT MOTEL PROJECT

Screen print, 24 pieces limited edition.
Selected 10 illustrators produced each landscape screen print with all diverse individual style
whilst we were sharing the theme "MOTEL".
when we discussed how it can be varied in terms of perspective and individual style.
i  decided to show sexually ambiguous atmosphere when we talk about "Motel"in most of Asian culture.

신세계백화점의  SSG Market의 청담동 매장 내 일러스트 사인과 SSG 매거진 내지,별지커버 작업을 마쳤습니다.

덩치가 워낙 큰 일이라 의사소통과 스케쥴면세서 안타까운 부분들과 그림 상 타협해야했던 부분들도 많았지만

7월 초 청담동의 새로 오픈한 매장에 가 볼 생각에 제법 신이납니다! 가볼 수 있을까요?

Fresh market's pretty's

Some test shots for the Korean version of posh bio market which currently i am working on.
i think it would b long journey with all these groceries, fishs and meat as well.
i think my images r pretty yummy~ there is nothing feeling better than satisfying myself !!!!
and.... good money? had stopped some jobs to do unknown adventures and 
i think my intuition lightening the positive signal.
am very tired to keep the face and make it flow but that is why it is more exciting.

약만 올리고 될 듯 말 듯, 손만 닿으면 잡힐 거리에서 
얄밉게 지나쳐가던 욕심나던 일들....
그 부풀었다 바람빠진 풍선이 되는  반복 속
마음은 탄력을 잃고 있었고 나는 쉬러 왔다.

장학금도 안되고 차라리 잘 됫다 그래도 
붙은 걸 안가긴  너무 좋은 학교라 
욕심 많은 난 거의 멍멍멍멍멍이였는데.
집중해볼 일이 생긴 듯하다.

한쪽 문이 닫히면 또 다른 문이 열리는 법이라는 것,  
큰 방향만 맞다면  주어진 길목에 총총히 한발 한발 연습하기.
작업은 아이디어가 아니라 실습. 연습이니까.

Sorry that i was't consistency to keep up posts!

June was busy to do some commercial works and am chased by self- project now.

This is a new postcard design  in response to the  poet called "it's grim" for inc magazine.

Inc Magazine is a poetry and illustration magazine based in Hackney.

They had issue 5 in this June and i participated on project with many

talented writers and illustrations. 

the colour scheme was blue and white

it has 2 topics one is about the arcon pasta and the other is how to pick and enjoy the best tomato from the market. did all the layout designs for the page as well. i am not sure whether it is right thing to do or not while i am paid only for illustration cut. whatever it might not  paid back straight but hope it work in right way one day.
i think i am quiet good at short term deadlines.

또 처음과 얘기와 달리 레이아웃 디자인까지 다하게 되고.....
일러스트레이터인데  매번 일마다 같은 돈 받고  타이포에 레이아웃 디자인까지 다 하게됩니다.
그래도  결과물 괜찮은게 더 나으니까. 할 때는 재미있으니.....내 연습입네 생각합니다만은.ㅎ 슬슬 쫌....

하는 김에 눈이 핑 돌아가는 와인 라벨과 비오 마켓 아이덴티티, 제이미 올리버 책 등

꽤 괜찮은 영국 일러스트 잡지와의 인터뷰 입니다.
쓸 때 너무너무 영어하기 싫어서 막 써서 보내고 니네가 에디팅하라고 하니 문법이 엄청나게 틀렸는데 안고쳐서 올려주는 센스.

내가 싫어라하는 여름이 오는데 그림은 심하게 착해집니다.
동물원에 다녀온 선물이 되기엔 좀.... 짖궂어 버렸네....

Being prolific (outside of art school's umbrella.)

Strategies what you have to do when u are in charge of self initiated project out of art school's umbrella.
Damn ..... this is hard but i think i get used to it compare to the last winter.

i find myself being much more prolific when i focused on simple task between my works.
such as doing good job on time for commition, cycling , jogging or talking , meeting pp who have no idea what i am doing.
these have gave me good energy to focus on my complicated themes for new book.
( they easily guess i am doing something art...... which is not too fun anymore....)

선배가 말한다. 
타협이 아니라 전과 다른 새로운 가치관에 맞춰
행복해지는 새로운 방법들을 찾아가는 과정인 것 같다고.
쉽게 가볍게 가는 것이 나쁜게 아니라고 강약 조절을 해도 좋다고....
어쩌면 그게 네가 그곳에서 가장 크게 배운 것일지도 모른다고.


솔직히 다 핑계고 모르고는 했는데 알고서는 다시 또 .... 엄두가 안나나 보다.


복잡한 것, 어려운 것, 애매한 것, 정체 되어 있는 것.... 결국 아무 결정도 내리지 않는 것.
단순한 것, 솔직한 것, 확실하지 않아도 진솔한 것, 마라톤처럼 핑계가 통하지 않는 한발 한발을 그저 걷는 것.


전처럼 전속력을 향해 가장 빛나는 것들을 향해 달리다  너무 으시대거나 지치지 말고....
호기심에 다가오는 정말 좋을지도 모를 사람들을 자꾸만 그렇게 내치지 좀 말고....
내 생각 만이 다 맞는게  아니라 주위 이야기들에 귀기울여 사람이 좀 유두리 있게.....
조금 웃기고 즐겁게 천천히 가더라도 지치지 않을 지속가능한 방법을 찾을 때라는 것.
어디서부터 어디를 버리고 어디는 더 견고해져야 하는지.... 서른이 넘어서도 나는 아직도 그렇다.
머리속을 빙빙 돌던 프로젝트들을 작은 스케치북에 나누어 정리한다.
색을 쓰며 웃는다. 그래 이거다. 그냥 어디서든 즐겁게 한발 한발 계속 하는 거.

Poster for Korean traditional Play titled "꽃뱀날다"

A poster for the traditional korean theatre at Kwangju.
the script drives me crazy with all the mythological allegories
but i just simply put them away and try to make direct message from
the title called "The snake wound my legs".
with tight deadline i think it was good to practice with more asian theme.


어찌하여  바리데기 설화바탕의 연극포스터를 맡았다.
스크립트 읽다가 기절.... 복잡한거 어려운거 넘흐 힘들어. 
마감이 너무 급박하고 메세지도 너무 다의적이라  다 빼고 심플하게 가기로 했다.
다 된 밥에 엄한 타이포를 올릴까 걱정되어 결국 안 맡긴 글씨까지 내가 맡고
제목을 한 눈에 눈과  입에  쉽게 맞는 걸로 컨셉.
"꽃뱀이날더러 다리를 감아보자 하여---"를  "꽃뱀날다" 로
주체측과 한마디 상의 없이 내맘대로 제목까지 줄였지만 기쁘게 통과!
후다닥 두 밤을 새고 뚝딱.  재밋게 한 듯.

I was going to throw some my early paintings before i back to London.
Some were still looks great (lol....) but there is always some 1 year's disaster.
thing is i liked the texture and colour scheme.
instead of throwing them away , i am gonna give them new life!
i think i've just started playing with some canvas works with cut out technique!!
am very excited~!

Spring has come.
Today , i am a life-lover.
In between some commercial deadlines, i'm trying to do personal drawings what make me happy.
hope i learn how to enjoy life better and simpler way than my early days.
try to see more things around me rather than keep drawing my multi-egos.
it's never late to learn about things which i have to known earlier.

Yester me & Yester you : i-phone screen

Yester me,Yester you is originally one of stevie wonder's songs.
i am not a big fan of neither the sone or the artist, but the title is just perfect to apply these works.

"Yester me " is my inner scenery about daily life.
Life can be quite dull but it can be like a thrilled circus
by trying to have an better day than yesterday.
"Yester you" is about the magical moment when people fall in love.
when the whole of  universe is focused on you two!

while i was away from LONDON- illustration for a bit at back at home, just realised that
photoshopy illustration which i was studying ro be seen more like Proper PRO can b looks
all same with contemporaries. Ironically, just realised working at Korean market could be more
flexible than i thought.
Well, i am not criticizing any scene, but saying it is  always good to have distance at some point.
So.... grabing my colour pencils on the way from home to Studio.
the boring or tiering moment turns the most enjoyable time of the day.

 will post more process work rather than completed work at here!!!
